There is a lot more than some may think that goes into constructing a brick wall for a commercial property. In particular, there is the question of choosing a design, and there are at least three main categories to pick from. Having the design that is the best fit for your project will ensure that the brick wall serves at it’s best for a long time. Here are the types of brick wall designs and their main differences.
Solid Wall
To start, the basic solid brick wall is at least two layers of brick thick held together by perpendicular header bricks or metal ties. It is a reliable choice for most properties because of its durability. The solid brick wall’s strength depends on the thickness of the layers and the motar bonds.
Cavity Wall
Next, a cavity brick wall is composed of two layers of brick with a two to four-inch space in between. The idea of the air space is to create a natural barrier against water, so a cavity wall is great for damp areas. The second layer of brick, the inner layer, can also be constructed of concrete blocks or poured concrete.
Veneer Walls
Like a cavity wall, veneer walls have one outer layer of brick. The brick layer in veneer walls is then attached to steel or wooden studs, creating a structural brick facade. Typically insulation is added to the inner layer. Veneer walls can be useful as a structure or purely cosmetic, depending on the materials used.
