Different Kind of Bricks
There are three main types of brick options: pavers, wall bricks, and face bricks. Pavers are constructed from clay and fired at high temperatures. If you’re looking for highly durable and live in environments with extreme weather, pavers are moisture resistant and best for homeowners in humid climates. Wall bricks are used generally for building walls although they can be used for walkways as well. While not as durable as pavers they come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Face bricks are very similar to wall bricks though they tend to be both more durable and costly.
Brick Patterns
There are a wide variety of brick patterns to pick from when redesigning or adding a brick pathway. Checking out different pictures of patterns is the best way to determine what is most visually appealing and meets your needs but there are a few common patterns:
Running bond: This pattern is a way to keep costs low and doesn’t call for a lot of bricks. The bricks are staggered but in a straight line.
Stack bond: This layout uses bricks in a straight line and creates a checkerboard look except all the bricks face the same direction. This kind of pattern is great for walkways that have heavy foot traffic.
Herringbone: This pattern is a common pattern also used in clothing and looks similarly to the bones of a fish. This pattern has interesting appeal with the bricks arranged in sloped alternating patterns.
