Learn more about which type of brick wall is best for your property.

When preparing to construct a brick wall for your commercial property, it’s essential to understand the three primary types of brick wall constructions. Property owners can select between solid, cavity, and veneer brick walls. Each of these has unique characteristics that may make them suitable – or not – for your purposes. The experienced masonry and brick contractors at Del Prete Masonry can advise you on which type of brick wall is best for your desired style, longevity, and comfort. You can contact us at any time to learn more about the following types of brick walls.

Incredible Longevity: Solid Brick Walls

Solid brick walls consist of two or more layers of brick. Metal ties or header bricks sit perpendicular to the wall and are used to secure the layers to one another. The strength of a solid brick wall depends on its thickness and the durability of the brick and mortar used to construct the wall. When properly maintained, the solid type of brick wall can last for centuries! Del Prete Masonry always uses the best quality bricks and mortar to ensure a satisfying and durable finish

Improved Water Barrier: Cavity Brick Walls

A cavity brick wall is built with an air pocket that acts as an integrated barrier against water entry. This makes it an excellent choice for brick walls built in damp climates or low-lying areas. A cavity wall will include an outer layer of brick connected to an inner support wall, with two to four inches of open space between each layer. The inner support can be built from poured concrete, concrete block, or brick. A cavity wall often contains drainage holes to let moisture accumulating in the air space escape.

Cost-Effective: Veneer Brick Walls

Veneer walls are constructed from a single layer of brick that is attached to steel or wooden studs. This type of brick wall provides a limited amount of insulation, which can be fortified by adding insulation to the studs beneath the brick wall. Many modern homes use brick veneers attached to a wood frame rather than solid brick.
